EcoSystems Grout INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT: REFER TO TECHNICAL INFORMATION BEFORE GROUTING

1. Apply over properly prepared permeable sub-base. Minimum grout depth should be 1 ¼” on products over 1 5/8” thick. Clean all debris (leaves, trash, etc…) out of grout joints before grouting. Do not grout if water is standing in the grout joints. Be sure to tape off and/or protect all surfaces that will not be receiving grout. Do not grout if temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit within 24 hours. Always begin grouting the stones at the top of a sloped driveway or walkway. Working time is approximately 10 minutes at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Lower temperatures will slow hardening and warmer temperatures will speed hardening.

2. Lightly spray water on inside of mixer before starting first batch. Empty one 50 lb. bag of specified sand into mixer. (3 ½ cubic foot, heavy duty electric drill mixer, or equal) (Larger electric and/or gas mixers may be used for larger batches)

3. Empty one Part (A) and one Part (B) container into mixer.

4. Add water into mixer by using empty Part A and B containers. Fill Part A and B containers to the top with water and pour into mixer.

5. Turn mixer on and run for 2 to 3 minutes until mixture becomes soupy. When using a wheelbarrow, lightly coat wheelbarrow with water and add above mixed grout. (Batches may be doubled, tripled, etc… in mixer if space is available.)

6. Lightly spray stones and squeegee with water prior to pouring out the epoxy grout.

7. Use foam squeegee to grout joints using medium pressure to insure coverage. (Acceptable foam squeegee manufacturers: Unger #92123, or Ettore #61018-18) Apply grout at a 45 degree angle to the joint. Spread the mixture quickly to prevent darkening areas. Gently sweep excess grout off the top of the stones using the squeegee. Remove as much sand as possible from the top of the stones with the squeegee before spreading another batch of grout. Take care not to walk on areas that have been recently grouted. If the squeegee process is done correctly, brooming will not be necessary.

8. Excess sand on top of the stones may be swept off with a stiff bristle push broom. Any brooming should be performed before the grout begins to harden. The grout should be slightly firm to the touch. In 68 degree Fahrenheit temperature brooming should be performed within 15 to 20 minutes and at a 45 degree angle to the joint.

Let dry.  Cover if rain is predicted within 5 hours. To prevent any discoloration when covering, try to keep the cover raised off of the stones. Remove the cover as soon as rain stops to ensure proper curing and to prevent any discoloration. Keep foot traffic off of stones for 5 hours.  Depending on curing temperature, light vehicular traffic can drive on the cobblestones after 24 to 72 hours.
NOTE: Do not reuse swept off material. During the initial application of the grout, a very thin film of epoxy may remain on the stone causing the stone color to intensify. This film however, will begin to disappear in exposed weather and through abrasion over a few months.

Foam squeegees and brooms are available through EcoSystems Grout, local EcoSystems Grout dealer or materials supply house.
